چکیده

Recently Perlmutter et al. (1999) suggested a positive value of Einstein’s cosmological constant Λ on the basis of luminosity distances from type-Ia supernovae (the “SN-method”). However, Λ world models had earlier been proposed by Hoell & Priester (1991) and Liebscher et al. (1992a,b) on the basis of quasar absorption-line data (the “Q-method”). Employing more general repulsive fluids (“dark energy”) encompassing the Λ component we quantitatively compare both approaches with each other. Fitting the SN-data by a minimum-component model consisting of dark energy + dust (pressureless matter) yields a closed universe with a large amount of dust exceeding the baryonic content constrained by big-bang nucleosynthesis. The nature of the dark energy is hardly constrained. Only when enforcing a flat universe there is a clear tendency to a dark-energy Λ fluid and the ‘canonical’ value ΩM ≈ 0.3 for dust. Conversely, a minimum-component Q-method fit yields a sharply defined, slightly closed model with a low dust density ruling out significant pressureless dark matter. The dark-energy component obtains an equation-ofstate P = −0.96ǫ close to that of a Λ-fluid (P = −ǫ). ΩM = 0.3 or a precisely flat spatial geometry are inconsistent with minimum-component models. It is found that quasar and supernova data sets cannot be reconciled with each other via (repulsive ideal fluid+incoherent matter+radiation)-world models. Compatibility could be reached by drastic expansion of the parameter space with at least two exotic fluids added to dust and radiation as world constituents. If considering such solutions as far-fetched one has to conclude that the Q-method and the SN-Ia constraints are incompatible.

Cosmic star formation and Type Ia/II supernova rates at high z

We study how Type Ia/II supernova rates at various redshifts can be used to constrain the cosmic star formation rate (CSFR) history. We use a spectrophotometric model of galaxy evolution which provides a self-consistent description of global properties of local galaxies. We have chosen two CSFR histories, with and without dust extinction, both normalized in order to reproduce the observed comov...

Limits on the X-ray and optical luminosity of the progenitor of the type Ia supernova SN2007sr

We present HST/WFPC2, GALEX and Chandra observations of the position of the type Ia supernova SN2007sr in the Antennae galaxies, taken before the explosion. No source is found in any of the observations, allowing us to put interesting constraints on the progenitor luminosity. In total there is about 450 kilosecond of Chandra data, spread over 7 different observations. Limiting magnitudes of FUV...

SALT: a Spectral Adaptive Light curve Template for Type Ia Supernovae

We present a new method to parameterize Type Ia Supernovae (SN Ia) multi-color light curves. The method was developed in order to analyze the large number of SN Ia multi-color light curves measured in current high-redshift projects. The technique is based on empirically modeling SN Ia luminosity variations as a function of phase, wavelength, a shape parameter, and a color parameter. The model i...

Luminosity Functions of Type Ia Supernovae and their Host Galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey

The sample of 137 low-redshift type Ia supernovae with 0.05 ≤ z ≤ 0.3 obtained from the SDSS-II Supernova Survey for the southern equatorial stripe of 300 square degrees is used to derive the luminosity functions of type Ia supernovae and of their host galaxies in the gri passbands. We show that the luminosity function of type Ia supernova host galaxies matches well with that of galaxies in the...

Broad Lyα Emission from Supernova Remnants in Young Galaxies

Context. Charge transfer (or exchange) reactions between hydrogen atoms and protons in collisionless shocks of supernova remnants (SNRs) are a natural way of producing broad Balmer, Lyman and other lines of hydrogen. Aims. We wish to quantify the importance of shock-induced, non-thermal hydrogen emission from SNRs in young galaxies. Methods. We present a method to estimate the luminosity of bro...
